Gugaa BESS is a proposed utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System located immediately adjacent to the new Gugaa Substation being constructed as part of HumeLink.

The project has been strategically located to take advantage of major new transmission infrastructure while providing large-scale energy storage capable of supporting the flexibility and reliability of the electricity network.

Battery storage allows electricity to be stored when it is available and dispatched back into the network when required, helping the electricity system respond to changing supply and demand.

STRATEGIC LOCATION

Careful site selection is fundamental to Silo Energy's development approach.

The Gugaa site was selected for its immediate proximity to the new HumeLink Gugaa Substation and its position within an emerging major energy infrastructure corridor south-east of Wagga Wagga.

HumeLink is one of Australia's largest transmission projects and will connect Wagga Wagga, Bannaby and Maragle, including new 500 kV infrastructure at Gugaa.

Locating the project alongside this infrastructure provides Gugaa BESS with a strong foundation for the development of a large-scale storage project.

PLANNING STATUS

Gugaa BESS is being assessed as a State Significant Development by the NSW Government.

Following submission of the Scoping Report in 2025, the project received its Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements in February 2026 and is now progressing through preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement.

Detailed technical, environmental and social studies are underway to inform the final project design.

Silo Energy's approach is to reduce potential impacts through careful site selection and project design from the outset.

As the project progresses, we will continue to work with neighbouring landowners, government agencies and the local community to address site-specific issues.
